Semiconductor Lasers and Optical Communications

Driven by the rapid growth of AI-related traffic, the power consumption of data centers has become a critical issue. We study the high-performance operation of semiconductor lasers, including high-speed modulation and low-power operation. Our research targets applications in optical fiber networks and short-reach optical interconnects within data centers, including chip-to-chip and device-to-device optical connections.

Photonic Device Design and Simulation

We investigate semiconductor lasers and nanostructured photonic devices using physics-based simulations for device analysis and design optimization. We also develop and utilize in-house simulation tools, and extend our research toward photonic integrated circuit design and system-level applications.

Advanced Photonic Applications

We explore advanced photonic technologies including optical information processing, sensing applications, and high-frequency optoelectronic conversion devices, aiming at next-generation photonics systems.

For Prospective Students

We study optical devices and explore applications in communication systems and information processing. Students with an interest in hardware can engage in device and system research, while those interested in software and information processing can work on simulation and application-oriented studies using techniques such as machine learning, making use of their respective interests and strengths.

We welcome students with a wide range of backgrounds who are interested in advanced optical technologies.
